Why I Left California and Built My Hair Career in Austin

People ask me all the time why I moved from California to Texas. The short answer is that Austin felt right. The longer answer is a little more interesting.

I grew up in California surrounded by creativity. I got into hair because I loved the idea that I could change how someone felt about themselves in a few hours. That pull led me into the beauty industry more than 20 years ago, and it has not let go since.

The Editorial and Commercial Years

Early in my career, I worked on commercial sets, editorial shoots, music videos, fashion week runways, and red carpet events. That world taught me how to think about hair differently. On set, the lighting changes, the camera angle shifts, and the hair has to look perfect from every direction. It trained my eye in a way that salon-only experience never could have.

I learned to work fast without sacrificing quality. I learned to read a brief, interpret a creative director's vision, and execute under pressure. And honestly, I learned that the best work happens when you trust your hands and stop overthinking.

Why Austin

Texas has this energy. Austin specifically has a community of people who care about quality, who support local businesses, and who are willing to drive a little farther for an experience that feels different. That matched exactly what I wanted to build.

My studio inside Marquise Salon Suites on W Highway 71 is a private, one-on-one space. No distractions, no chaos, no double-booking. When you are in my chair, you have my full attention for the entire appointment. Clients tell me that alone is what keeps them coming back.

What Drives Me Now

At this point in my career, I am most passionate about helping people feel like the best version of themselves. Whether that is a subtle refresh or a full transformation, I bring the same energy to every appointment. I am also a mother of four and deeply involved in advocacy work for human trafficking victims. The salon gives me a platform to connect with my community in a meaningful way.

If you want to learn more about my approach and philosophy, or if you are ready to book your first appointment, I would love to meet you.
